EXTENSION OF BENEFIT OF RETIREMENT GRATUITY AND DEATH GRATUITY TO EMPLOYEES OPTING FOR UNIFIED PENSION SCHEME (UPS)

Ministry of Finance, Department of Financial Service vide its Notification No. FS-1/3/2023-PR dated 24.01.2025 had notified introduction of the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) as an option under NPS for the recruits to the Central Government civil service w.e.f. 01.04.2025 giving one time option to the Central Government employees covered under the National Pension System (NPS) for inclusion under the Unified Pension Scheme. 

In view of the above, the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare vide its OM No. 57/01/2025-P&PW(B)/UPS/10498 dated 18.06.2025, has issued clarification that the Central Government employees opting for Unified Pension Scheme shall be eligible for benefit of ‘Retirement gratuity and Death gratuity’ under the provisions of the Central Civil Service (Payment of Gratuity under National Pension System) Rules, 2021.

वित्त मंत्रालय के वित्तीय सेवा विभाग ने 24.01.2025 की अपनी अधिसूचना संख्या एफएस-1/3/2023-पीआर के माध्यम से यूनिफाइड पेंशन स्कीम (यूपीएस) को 01.04.2025 की प्रभावी तिथि से केंद्रीय सरकार की सिविल सेवा में नए कर्मचारियों के लिए एनपीएस के तहत एक विकल्प के रूप में अधिसूचित किया था। इसमें राष्ट्रीय पेंशन प्रणाली (एनपीएस) के तहत आने वाले केंद्रीय सरकार के कर्मचारियों को यूनिफाइड पेंशन स्कीम में शामिल होने का एकमुश्त विकल्प दिया गया था।

उपरोक्त के आलोक में, पेंशन और पेंशनर्स कल्याण विभाग ने 18.06.2025 के अपने कार्यालय ज्ञाप संख्या 57/01/2025-पी एंड पीडब्लू (बी)/यूपीएस/10498 के जरिए यह स्पष्ट किया है कि यूनिफाइड पेंशन स्कीम का विकल्प चुनने वाले केंद्रीय सरकार के कर्मचारी केंद्रीय सिविल सेवा (राष्ट्रीय पेंशन प्रणाली के तहत ग्रेच्युटी का भुगतान) नियम, 2021 के प्रावधानों के तहत ‘सेवानिवृत्ति ग्रेच्युटी और डेथ ग्रेच्युटी’ के लाभ के लिए पात्र होंगे।
