Bharat Pensioners Samaj made History by launching 2 days Digital literacy training programme for pensioners
FEEDBACKS RECEIVED FROM THE PARTICIPANTS ABOUT THE DIGITAL LITERACY TRAINING PROGRAMME on 15th &16th July at Bangalore
The two day training programme on digital literacy for the senior citizens was truly an endearing scene to behold. It was held in a beautifully arranged conference hall of the Income Tax Office in Bengaluru on July 15-16, 2024. Madam Saraswati from the Tata Trust and Mr. Louis from the TCS were the resource persons who, along with four students, viz. Anthony, Flora, Johanna and Alyssa took personal care and ensured that each of the 52 white heads, coming from different pensioners associations, were engrossed in unraveling the magic of the smart phone, which most of them were using mostly for watching videos and forwarding them to their friends or using it as a feature phone.
True, everything looks like magic till some wise guy explains how the trick is performed. We could see the grim faces turning into confusion and finally transforming into a broad smile with the satisfaction of having learnt a new trick.
None of us knew all the things that were taught and demonstrated in the class. The lessons began with basic features of the smartphone, how to secure it with passwords, fingerprint and face identification, what to do if you lost the phone, how to download essential apps, how to participate in virtual meetings, how to make payments and transfer money through UPI and different payment apps, how to do online banking, filing IT Returns, pay taxes and bills, how to protect personal data, bank details and passwords, how to buy train or bus tickets etc... all without moving out of your home.
We were also taught tricks to save power and data, what to do when fraudulent calls or messages are received, do's and don'ts while using social media or mail, and precautions to take against cyber attacks.
The two-day programme also included instruction on the use of Digi locker, CGHS, ABHA, Jeevan Praman, browsers and search engines, and generating one's own Digital Life Certificate.
Mr Louis cautioned us repeatedly against online fraud and the need to shut down the phone and the wifi modem before going to bed. He also gave his phone number and offered to help us in case we find any problem while using the phone. A kind gesture indeed.
Shri K.B. Krishna Rao, Shri S. Radhakrishna and Shri T.V.Suryaprakash from the Cordination Committee of Central Govt Pensioners Associations- Karnataka and Shri R.B.Deshpande from Income Tax Pensioners Association had made all the preparations in chalking out the programme, fixing the venue, and getting the resource persons. Shri Praveen Karanth, IRS, Commissioner of Income Tax (Admn) inaugurated the 2-day programme. Shri S. Radhakrishna welcomed the gathering on the first day while Shri Girish Kanagotagi of Karnataka CGPA proposed a vote of thanks on conclusion of the event. The IT Department made arrangements for tea/coffee and lunch also.
We owe our sincere gratitude to all of them. Last but not least, our heartfelt thanks to Shri S C. Maheshwari, Secretary General of the Bharat Pensioners Samaj, New Delhi for his foresight on the need of the senior citizens for digital literacy and coordinating with TCS . We from Bengaluru are grateful for his initiative and efforts. His idea of starting the programme with Bengaluru has indeed borne fruits. Our thanks to all the participants who proved that old horses too can learn new tricks.

The Two days programme on Digital Literacy was attended by four of our pensioners.
All of them have expressed it was quite useful for the day to day life. All around variety of scam going on and this programme educates how to be careful in usage if mobile.
Handling of proper usage of Mobile is not known to many excepting mail, whatsapp, sms but many other usage was explained in the 2 day session. The pain taken by TCS team was laudable.
Members also appreciated the nice arrangements such as timely coffee/tea snacks lunch etc.
In the present day situation everyone should learn the tricks of Mobile.
On behalf of members, I thank BPS for arranging such a good educative programme.
Keep it up!!
Thank you

The training program was very well attended on 15th and 16th by pensioners from various pensioners’ organizations. The arrangements made by the Income Tax Departments Pensioners Association were very good and were appreciated by one and all. The points covered by Dr. Louis of TCS were very good and quite informative. We have come to know about the creation of the ABHA number. Have been taught about IRCTC, KSRTC, and G mail. They also taught us about Cyber crimes and how to prevent them. He also taught us about fake Videos, messages etc, and how not to fall into their trap. He also informed us what action to be taken if the mobile is lost. . They further helped us in creating emergency numbers in case of any emergency so a person can reach his close relatives
Mrs Saraswahth from Tata Trust was quite cooperative and also their assistants went around and tried to clear the doubts of the pensioners.
We have come to know many good aspects and to anoint bad points
I thank all the organizers who have taken pains to conduct this programme which was quite useful to
The persons like me
