Govt to bear expenses of babus’ medical treatment abroad, airfare
NEW DELHI: Bureaucrats and their dependent family members can now get medical treatment abroad at the state expense, and also get the airfare reimbursed under government’s new rules.
This comes at a time when the government is facing flak over the ailing economy.
A member of All India Services can also be airlifted outside the state in case of a medical emergency, the new rules by ministry of personnel said.
“A member of service shall be eligible to obtain medical treatment outside India or, as the case may be, to claim reimbursement of the cost of the treatment obtained inside or outside India,” the ministry said.
Earlier, All India Services officer were not allowed to reimburse the cost of medical treatment abroad.
An IAS, IPS and IFoS officer can now avail the same, not only for himself but also for a family member for cardio-vascular surgery, bone marrow transplant and other complex medical and oncological disorders, including leukaemia.
