In keeping with PM Modi's repeated declarations that he is certain of a third term, top government officials are preparing an action plan for the new regime, focusing, among other things, on "optimization of ministries" from the current 54, increasing the number of Indian missions overseas by 20% to 150 in the next six years among others.

NEW DELHI: In keeping with PM Narendra Modi's repeated declarations that he was sure to get a third term and intends to hit the ground running, top govt officials have been preparing the action plan for the new regime, focusing, among other things, on “optimization of ministries” from the current 54, increasing the number of Indian missions overseas by 20% to 150 in the next six years, greater private investment in infrastructure and a mechanism for smoother land acquisition for priority projects.

A draft paper, which is to be discussed during meetings called by the cabinet secretary this month, also proposes to target more than doubling the share of senior citizens with pension benefits to 50% by 2030, from 22%, while also raising the participation of women in the workforce from 37% to over 50%, higher than the current global average of 47%.
The thrust on electric vehicles is evident from the target to raise their share in vehicle sales from 7% to over 30%.
Sources said discussions were underway to target reducing case pendency in courts to under 1 crore by 2030, from around 5 crore at present, and cutting the turnaround of cases in the lower judicial system from 2,184 days to 1,000 days. In the case of higher courts, the target is to reduce the turnaround time from the current 1,128 days to less than 500 days by 2030, which will require more judges in courts. The plan is to reduce vacancies in the judiciary from 22% to 10% over the next six years.
