7TH PAY COMMISSION: BONANZA AS TOP BASIC PAY IS RS 2.5 LAKH, HRA RS. 60,000


The 7th Pay Commission had earlier proposed the rate of House Rent Allowance at 24 percent, 16 percent and 8 percent of the Basic Pay for Class X, Y and Z cities respectively.

There is a bonanza for central government employees once the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission is put into effect. The cabinet secretary will get a good pay raise and also a substantial increase in House Rent Allowance once the recommendations of pay commission is put into effect.

Currently the cabinet secretary gets Rs 90,000 a month. This would increase to Rs 2.5 lakh a month. The HRA too will see an increase and is expected to be at Rs 60,000 per month.
Currently there are 43 lakh central government employees and 53 lakh pensioners who are covered for perks and bonuses under the recommendations of 6th Pay Commission that will soon be replaced by 7th Pay Commission.

The final report of the panel will be submitted on April 27 after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley returns from his United States of America visit. The review committee set up under Finance Secretary Ashok Lavasa has finalised its report and will submit it soon
