Widows, elderly pension hiked
NEWDELHI: Lieutenant Governor Governor A nil Baijalh as cleared a proposal by the Delhi government to increase monthly pensions of widows, senior citizens and the disabled by Rs1,000 each.
The development comes close on the heels of Baijal clearing the proposal of constructing over 300 mohalla clinics, a flagship project of AAP government which was pending with the LG office for months before Baijal took over from Najeeb Jung.
“The L-Ghas cleared the proposal of increasing pensions of senior citizens, widows and disabled persons,” an official said.
As per the modification in a pension scheme, senior citizens in the age group of 60-69 years will now get Rs 2,000 as a pension instead of Rs 1,000 and senior citizens above 70 years will get Rs 2,500 now as against Rs 1,500.
A person with the disability will get Rs 2,500 instead of Rs 1500, similarly, pension for widows and destitute women has been increased from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,500 per month.
